Directed excavation and restoration works. Studied ancient sewers, hydraulic infrastructure and foundations. Led all archaeological aspects of restoration.

Initiated study of the Tiber and flood plains. Responsible through 2009 for the Tiber zone and the Roman fluvial port at Testaccio.

First surveys of decay of Rome's marble monuments. His findings directly inspired the special law for Rome's heritage protection.
